What to see
Basilica de Bom Jesus
More than 400 years old, this
UNESCO World Heritage Site holds the mortal remains of missionary St. Francis Xavier. Located in Old Goa, it is considered to be
one of the oldest churches in India. In every 10 years, the relics of the holy saint, kept safely in a silver casket, are displayed to public on the occasion of the saint’s death anniversary. It is a
famous pilgrimage, and sees Christian devotees from all over the world. The church is a fine
example of baroque architecture with marble flooring inlaid with precious stones. The walls of the church are decorated with the
paintings depicting the life of the holy saint. The two chapels of the church comprise a main altar and a sacristy besides a choir inside the church itself.
Fort Aguada
This
17th century fort was constructed by the Portuguese to protect Old Goa from the attacks of Marathas and Dutch. The fort, through its freshwater springs, used to provide potable water to the voyagers arriving by ships there. That is how it got its name “
Aguada” which means “a place with accumulated water” in Portuguese. Located on Sinquerim beach, this fort is the largest and best preserved Portuguese bastion in Goa. An
example of architectural brilliance, the grand fort offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea. Also, there is a
four-storey lighthouse built in the 19th century which is a must visit.
A stroll through the fort to the lighthouse is completely refreshing. Today, some buildings of the fort serve as a prison which is also the largest one in Goa.

amazing beaches of Goa set them apart from others. A hit among tourists, these beaches are

beaches in South Goa are more secluded and quieter. The beaches of Galgibaga, Majorda, Palolem, Bogmalo, Agonda, Colva, Benaulim and Betul make
a perfect destination for people seeking tranquillity. The breathtaking sunsets and striking landscapes at these beaches will take you to another world.
Dudhsagar Waterfalls
Because of its
milky white streams falling down the mountain side, it is called the Dudhsagar Waterfalls. The
four-tiered waterfall is a delight to see during monsoon when it is full of water, furious in flow and thus, creating a
completely stunning sight. It is situated in Sanguem tehsil, and one can go for swimming in the couple of pools it has. The spray from the waterfalls creates the illusion of clouds making the vistas look beautiful. This highest and largest fall in Goa is
popular for activities like trekking and Jeep safari.
Chapora Fort
Built in 1617, the fort is
made of red laterite, and was erected to protect Portuguese territories from the attacks of the Marathas. At a distance of 10 km from Mapusa, the fort was constructed over the remnants of earlier Muslim structure. It is one of the
main attractions of Goa where many Indian movies have been shot. The crumbled fort draws lots of tourists all across the globe for the
enchanting views of Vagator and Anjuna beaches. It is highly recommended to climb up the hill to catch the
glimpse of splendid sunset. While visiting the fort, you will see the heads of two escape tunnels and pre-Portuguese Muslim tombstones scattered over the area.
